Peter Woodcock (45) left a “fine big dent” and caused more than €1,200 of damage to the parked car.

Judge Anne Watkin fined him €400 but did not ban him from driving.

The defendant, of Longford Terrace, Monkstown, was found guilty before Dun Laoghaire District Court of failing to keep his vehicle at the scene of an accident.

He had pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The court heard the incident took place at Main Street, Blackrock, on January 2, 2015. A witness told the court she was driving into Blackrock on the day in question when she slowed down to let a Jeep into a parking space. She said it bumped the car behind, pulled out and hit it again.

The witness said she took the registration number of the Jeep. There was a “fine big dent” in the other car and she left a note for the owner of that vehicle.

The court heard the damage to the vehicle cost €1,250 to repair.

Woodcock said he told the officer he was “more than likely there on the day in question”.

He said he had no memory of hitting the car, and the problem was that he was told the incident had taken place at another location.

His insurance had covered the damage caused, the court heard.

Judge Watkin found Woodcock guilty. Fining and convicting him, she said it was, however, not the worst case of leaving the scene of an accident she had dealt with.
